My name is William Hastings, and I was born December 16th, 1993. I have one brother, and one sister. Growing up was an interesting experience. Both my parents worked normal jobs, and even though my parents had a rough time paying all the bills, they always went above and beyond to take care of us. My parents where apart, and together, and because of that I changed between schools for a while. Eventually they ended up breaking up for good, and I started living with my mom. I was half way through High School when I started living with my dad. Being that I did not want to switch high schools again, and I just got my drivers license at the time. So I decided to drive my self from the south side of town, all the way to the north side to attend Canyon Del Oro High School. I also did the marching band which was a 0 hour at this time, and started at 6am, and ended at 6pm every other day. Most nights I only got 3 to 4 hours of sleep after doing homework before bed, or even less after some competitions out of town. I made it through High School, and graduated in May of 2012.
While in High School, I learned that I really enjoyed Engineering. I took a Engineering 102 class my senior year of high school at the University of Arizona. I then went straight into Community College at Pima Community College with my decision to take the classes for Electrical and Computer Engineering. Lets now fast forward to 2016. While applying to the University of Arizona College of Engineering, I decided to take a glance at Computer Science since I was thinking about it in High School. Turns out all the classes I was taking besides my Engineering based classes also full filled all the math, and sciences for Computer Science. So I did the math and figured that I could not only get a Bachelors in Electrical & Computer Engineering, but also a Bachelors in Computer Science. I was accepted into the University of Arizona half way through my last semester at Pima.
My final Semester of Pima Community College was also the semester I learned I had become a Type 1 Diabetic. On May 3rd, 2016 in the early AM, I was admitted into St.Mary's hospital with a Blood Glucose level of 533. and a state of DKA. You can read more about being diagnosed in my blog entry "Being Diagnosed with Type 1 Diabetes".
Besides being diagnosed with Diabetes, I have many hobbies I enjoy, and that I am never going to let my Diabetes prevent me from doing what I want to do. I do everything from sitting at my desk programming, to serious adrenaline seeking activities like Enduro Dirt Biking, and everything inbetween.
